The Onward 4 Excellence Institute
A YEAR-LONG PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON A TOPIC OR SUBJECT-AREA THAT MEETS AN IDENTIFIED NEED WITHIN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES
Cohort 3 (2023 - 2024): Effective Approaches to Promote Mathematical Mindsets for Middle and High School Math Teachers
Cohort 2 (2022 - 2023): Effective Approaches to Promote Mathematical Mindsets for 3rd - 5th Grade Math Teachers
Cohort 1 (2021 - 2022): Teacher and Learning with a Language Lens for TK - 2nd Grade Teachers
Each cohort’s learning is enhanced through their small-group work led by a teacher facilitators.
Teacher Introductory Program (TIP)
Designed for teachers new to teaching and/or new to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, these sessions engage participants in formation around Mission, Catholic Identity, and Academic Excellence. At the culmination of TIP, participants receive a certificate of completion and complete their orientation and specialization phase towards their CA Basic Catechetical Certification.

Bi-Weekly Principal and Teacher Resources
Every two weeks, the Onward 4 Excellence team curates and creates ready to go resources for principals and teachers. Resource topics are responsive to the needs of schools and include agendas and activities for principals to use with their faculties and activities for teachers to use with their students. Examples include: liturgical season retreats, SEL activities, reflections on grading practices, and and inclusive curriculum guides.

Growth Assessment Tool (Star) Collaborations
These sessions offer opportunities for teacher leaders and principals across the Archdiocese to collaborate on building a data culture. Participants develop capacity in data literacy, analyze student data, and create action plans to engage their faculty in support of student learning.

Site Support Visits
The Onward 4 Excellence team meets with school leadership teams (virtually and in-person) to provide individualized support of schools’ academic goals. Supports include classroom walk-throughs, review of student learning artifacts, and collaborative planning conversations.
